Old Leigh is very popular for all types of sailing and canoeing. The Leigh Sailing Club is based in Old Leigh and the Club House is situated opposite Bell Wharf, in the Old Station Building. Just a short walk along the towpath lies the 'Wilton', which is an old Coastal Minehunter Ship now used as the Club House for the Essex Yacht Club.
Also in Old Leigh, there is a strong Scouting tradition where many young people learn the love of sailing. The headquarters for the 3rd Chalkwell Bay Sea Scouts are situated in "The Den" on Victoria Wharf, the 4/6 Leigh on Sea Sea Scouts are based in "The Coal Hole" which is next to the Peter Boat car park. And the Clarendon Venture Scouts are along the High Street.
